Part 75: Episode 3, Epilogue: Rivals
We're back in lobby #3. I don't know why I feel the need to keep track of that.

Now there's a happy client for once!

Killing two birds with one spear I guess? Get rid of the one blackmailing you, and open up the lead role?

Sound: Whack

I guess we get to be more direct here.

Presenting Cody's album is the obvious choice here, but the security photo of Hammer in the Steel Samurai costume also works.

We can skip the whole conversation by just saying we don't know why Hammer did it...
I guess we'll never know.
Y-yes, of course.
(Whew... I'm not sure I wanted to go down that road.)
quote:
Presenting anything but the album or the security photo gives us a confusion response:
...
S-sorry? What does that mean?
Sound: Light Bulb
Yeah, what does that mean, Maya?
Sound: Realization
Um, Nick? You know that problem of yours?
That problem where you present evidence that makes no sense? You're doing it again.
(Oh...)
...?
We continue either way...

Sound: Light Bulb

I'm not telling him, you tell him.

Quick! Hide behind Will!

Don't move! He can't see you if you don't move!

Umm... mighty nice of you to help out with Vasquez?

Will, dude, read the room.

Sound: Whack

Aha! So they do have a history together!

Sound: Realization

Yeah, you'd still have your perfect record, and two innocent people would be in prison (or worse). What could be better?

Edgeworth storms off, or whatever he does.

Well, episode 3 certainly was a lengthy one! We had 38 total updates (with almost 2600 images altogether), spread across almost five months. That's rather incredible, really. The characters were once again great - Will Powers was an adorable client, Dee Vasquez was an absolutely marvelous villain, and everyone in between was interesting and memorable in very different ways. Except maybe "that assistant," who even the game's writers can't remember is named Penny half the time.
The case itself felt like it was about a day too long. The first day of trial and the following investigation sequence both felt like filler and just dragged on. But unlike last episode, this episode wrapped up with a fantastic trial day, complete with Edgeworth bailing us out, out of nowhere, and then Phoenix landing the finishing blow by himself for once! And the second day of trial had the incredible twist, revealing that Hammer was the one in the Steel Samurai costume the whole time, and throwing me into a stupor!
We also once again tripped up our villain on a line where she was telling the truth - but it revealed more than she thought. It was in the second testimony instead of the first, but still an excellent mystery clue reveal. The overall writing for this case in general was superb, really.
Music: Jingle - It Can't End Here

We're not done yet! Episode 4 is ahead of us, and it looks like we have Edgeworth and some new faces! One of whom looks... a lot like Edgeworth? Does Edgeworth have some daddy issues?
